Online waste industry resource MRW reports that a one per cent rise in recycling rates to 35.5 per cent in England has been welcomed, as WasteDataFlow figures for the latest quarter have been published. To avoid seasonal distortion, comparisons were made between the year April 2007 to March 2008 and the year July 2007 to June 2008, which includes the provisional results for the quarter April to June 2008.

In response to the Government’s stated aim to halve the levels of construction and demolition waste going to landfill by 2012, the UK Contractors Group (UKCG) has produced detailed guidelines for member companies to measure and report construction waste.

According to the MRW website, the Environment Agency has sent guidance to local authorities asking them to report the final destination of materials they collect for recycling.
The guidance explains that Waste Disposal Authorities need to report the final destination of waste handled in the UK via their WasteDataFlow returns. The WDF is a web-based system for municipal waste data reporting by UK local authorities to Government. The guidance states that commercial confidentiality is not an excuse to withhold final destination of waste information.
